Terms of Reference


Members: The committee shall comprise of the Chair of Governors , the Chairs of the main committees and the Headteacher.

Quorum: 3 governors

Chair: To be appointed by the committee

Clerk: To be appointed by the committee

Terms of reference:

  • Undertake a strategic and co-ordinating role in the governance of the school.
  • Establish and keep under review Standing Orders, Terms of Reference and Code of Conduct for the Governing Body and the delegations to committees and individuals.
  • Consider recommendations made by committees with regard to the working of the Governing Body.
  • Be available and respond to matters of particular difficulty, sensitivity and emergency and offer advice to the Headteacher.
  • Make decisions in extraordinary circumstances.
  • Consider issues related to strategic planning.
  • Confirm the programme of work and calendar of meetings for the school year, based on known cycles of school improvement, financial management, staffing issues and communication with parents.
  • Review the business of the previous cycle and to agree the work of the Governing Body and its committees for the term ahead and beyond where necessary.
  • Monitor the progress of work being undertaken by the committees and individuals.
  • Undertake annually a self-review of effectiveness of the Governing Body and its practices and procedures using the Ofsted framework and initiate action as required.
  • Establish and keep under review arrangements for Governors’ visits to school.
  • Monitor induction, training and development needs of governors.

Haydock Curriculum

The pace of curriculum change continues to accelerate, for example introducing a more flexible Key Stage 3. Our constant planning offers confidence for successful delivery and assessment of these areas.

Over the last few years we have been successful in achieving Sportsmark, Investors in People, Artsmark, Careers and Guidance and Healthy Schools accreditation. We were also awarded the accolade of a ‘Get Set’ school in the run-up to the 2012 London Olympics.

Haydock Leisure Centre

Facilities With a £250,000 refurbishment in 2006, the PE department and Leisure Centre were refurbished to accommodate more people and classes, offering a wide range of activities to students and the wider community. The changing rooms are of a high standard with disabled access, automatic showers and private cubicles. Sports Hall The Sports Hall can accommodate the following: 5 a side football, whole Sports Hall Cricket, whole Sports Hall Badminton, whole or half Sports Hall Keep Fit and much more.
