Chinese New Year Celebrations

Haydock High celebrated Chinese New Year in style in this ‘Year of the Pig’, as students gathered in the school library during lunchtime to enjoy activities and a wonderful display of all things Chinese!

Festivities began with a Chinese dragon parading through the corridors encouraging all to come and collect fortune cookies, prawn crackers and lucky oranges!

Mrs Ashburner’s Year 7 group had created some amazing works of art, including painted silks, window pictures and even a life size cardboard Ming Vase!!!

There were chopsticks to try, images of Chinese ceremonies and food, and information on the many traditions that the festival includes.

A great number of students attended and took part, and we hope that the fortune cookie predictions come true!

Huge thanks to Mrs Ashburner and Mrs Dixon for all of their hard work and to the students who took part!

Thanks also go to Mr Edwards and Miss Shi from Cowley High School who came to teach a Mandarin lesson as part of the days activities!

Over the last few years we have been successful in achieving Sportsmark, Investors in People, Artsmark, Careers and Guidance and Healthy Schools accreditation. We were also awarded the accolade of a ‘Get Set’ school in the run-up to the 2012 London Olympics.
